"This number is already in use" stops a lot of Bumble sign-ups. It means exactly what it says: Bumble already has an account tied to that number.
The usual causes
- Your own old account. Maybe you signed up years ago, or deleted a profile recently.
- A recycled number. Carriers reassign numbers. The previous owner might have used it on Bumble.
- A shared number from a free app or SMS site. These have been through many hands.
Fix 1: log in instead of signing up
If the account might be yours, choose "Use phone number" on the login screen. You may find your old profile — which you can edit or delete properly from inside the app.
Fix 2: use a different number
If the account isn't yours, or you want a clean start, verify with another number. It needs to be one Bumble accepts — non-VoIP — and one nobody has used on Bumble before.
Fix 3: contact Bumble
If it's your number and you can't access the old account, Bumble's support can sometimes release it. Expect it to take a while.
Avoid it next time
Add a second login method once you're in. And when you leave the app, delete your account from inside the settings rather than just uninstalling it.
